Our Story
The Altær community, formerly known as Vineyard GenX, began formation around the year 2000 when a few young adults of the Vineyard Westside LA began coming together to connect spiritually and relationally with a desire to seek after God and follow Him. Under the leadership of Brad Bailey (Vineyard Lead Pastor), this group of young adults began to develop a vision of ministry as well as a passion to see the Kingdom of God in their generation. The community grew and developed into three small groups, and eventually led to the calling of a pastor for the young adult community. Joel and Shannon Moses accepted the call, and began serving the community in early 2002, leading to a small 'core' team gathering monthly in preparation to launch an 'alternative' service - a weekly gathering open to all, led by the young adult community. The meetings began to occur weekly, and the focus became prayer, worship, equipping and ministry - in preparation for this new season that God was preparing.
In September 2002, the Altær Sunday night service began with the vision of presenting ourselves at the altar and allowing God to alter and transform us. God accepted the offerings placed at His altar, and He began to expand the work He began...both in health and depth. The Altær community began to take form, and we began to live out the vision of being a 'community within a community' of the Vineyard Westside.
God's work among us has now expanded from a few young adults to many others. Our community consists of people of varying ages and varying walks of life – young professionals, college students, high school students, young singles, young married couples, and young families.
God's work among us is not complete, though. The story continues...the journey continues. The door is open for you to come and join the journey. We invite you to be part of the story, too!
